The Boksmart National Rugby Safety Programme is a joint venture between SA Rugby and the Chris Burger/Petro Jackson Players’ Fund aimed at reducing the number of catastrophic injuries in the game. Boksmart aims to provide coaches, referees, players and administrators with the knowledge and skills to ensure best practices are incorporated into all aspects of contact rugby. Referees and coaches are specifically targeted because they are the key influencers of the game controlling players the game and the players. All coaches and referees must certify every two years. No coach or referee may enter the playing enclosure without a valid Boksmart accreditation. WP Referees hosts a number of accreditation courses every year, contact the office for current dates.
